Meaty birds in the making!
Meaty birds in the making!

This week at Caney Creek Acres, our meat chickens moved out of their brooder and enjoyed our pasture. In the brooder, we typically give them a great start by offering miracle water: pressed garlic, raw honey and organic apple cider vinegar in their waterer. This boosts their bodies and makes them practically indestructible.

They were so eager to leave their brooder and meet the fresh-tasting grass and the long-awaited insects. When we peer outside from our window, we can see our chickens flapping their wings and living the life. We worked last week on their chicken tractor, which enables us to move the chickens around the pasture everyday. Besides grass and insects, we feed our chickens  organic feed, which, not only is non-GMO, but also ensures us that glyphosate (Round-Up) has not been sprayed on the crops. The latter is particularly  important to us, since some members of our family are very allergic to glyphosate. We raise these chickens for our own consumption too, so you can bet that the best efforts are put into these feathered creatures.

Due to their fast growth, our chickens are eating a LOT, about a bag a day, and are getting plenty of exercise. Our pastures are never sprayed with pesticides or any chemical, so our chickens can have fun in the sun, worry-free. The chickens at Caney Creek Acres have the best life a chicken could have, and we are excited that this will translate into the best tasting, most nutritious meat available.

By the way, if you have ever wondered if pasture-raised is worth it, take a look at the astounding research mentioned in this short video: Meat is 85% more nutritious when pasture-raised!

The marvelous strip of fertilized soil that they leave behind. Our dairy cow will be grazing on that same nutrient dense spot in a few months.
